PITTSBURGH (AP) – Police say a man was shot to death during a home invasion in Pittsburgh.

Authorities say two people broke into the home through a back door and shot the man late Tuesday. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 40-year-old Thomas Cheeks.

A preliminary investigation determined the suspects also shot and killed a family dog before shooting Cheeks.

Cheeks’ wife and 14-year-old son were also home, but did not see the shooting and weren’t harmed.

Authorities are searching for the suspects, who fled before police arrived.

An investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy on Cheeks is scheduled for Wednesday.
