Waynesburg Chamber awards scholarship
The Educational Scholarship Fund Committee of the Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce recently presented their 26th annual scholarship of $1,500 to Lindsey Gilbert of Waynesburg Central High School.
Gilbert also was presented with a laptop computer, compliments of Pcsquared, and a custom backpack, courtesy of the Greene County United Way.
Gilbert, 17, plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to pursue a degree in sociology of deviance this fall. She will enter as an incoming junior as a result of courses she completed online and on-campus during her junior and senior years at Waynesburg Central.
Gilbert is the daughter of Richard and Heather Gilbert of Waynesburg. At Waynesburg Central, she maintained a 3.44 grade-point average.
This scholarship is presented each year to a Greene County senior who plans to attend a college or trade school. The 2016 scholarship was awarded based on grade point average and a 500 word essay. The student’s community involvement and school activities are reviewed in the case of a tie. Gilbert and her family were special guests of the chamber at the May general membership meeting of chamber members, where she read her winning essay.
This year, 33 applications for the scholarship were received by the chamber. The committee had a difficult task of selecting one winner from the qualified field. The chamber would like to thank all who participated in the process.
