Man cleared of illegally possessing firearm
A Jefferson man was found guilty by a Greene County jury May 20 of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, but acquitted of the more serious charges of receiving stolen property and possessing a firearm without a license.
Waynesburg police arrested Jordan Lee Scritchfield, 28, of 100 Monongahela St., Aug. 28 after finding him and his girlfriend along a dirt pathway off South Richhill Street. He was in possession of marijuana, a pipe and a handgun that was reported stolen to state police in Belle Vernon.
Scritchfield told police he was holding the gun for his brother.
Following the trial, Scritchfield was sentenced by Greene County Judge Dayich to one year and 30 days of probation, fined $200 and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
