Rally Thursday for West Greene softball team
ROGERSVILLE – West Greene teachers, staff, parents and community members will rally in support of the varsity softball team Thursday afternoon before the Pioneers leave for their WPIAL championship game.
The team’s bus will leave at 1:15 p.m. for California University of Pennsylvania, where the girls will play against the Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers at 4 p.m.
“We’re just going to open it up to everybody who’s a fan,” West Greene High School Principal Scott Sakai said Friday. “And we’ll just have a big old cheer session.”
The district held a big send-off for the team last week before their semifinal game against the Monessen Greyhounds. The district’s entire student body stood outside the high school with signs as the girls boarded the bus.
“You always try to do it one better the next time, but with school being out, that makes it kind of difficult,” Sakai said.
People can buy T-shirts for the championship game, Sakai said. The West Greene Softball Boosters are sponsoring a “Gold Out” sale and the shirts can be ordered at wgsoftball.itemorder.com by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
