Teenager from Canonsburg sentenced in home invasion
A Canonsburg teen was sentenced Tuesday to three to six years in prison in connection with an armed home invasion last year.
Washington County Judge Gary Gilman sentenced Malik Brown, 18, Tuesday on charges of criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, burglary and two counts of robbery that stemmed from a Sept. 16 robbery at a house on North Central Avenue in Canonsburg.
Brown of East Pitt Street entered guilty pleas on each of the charges. Gilman ordered him to serve a sentence of three to six years in prison followed by four years of probation on each of the charges. He will serve the sentences on the various charges concurrently. Gilman also gave Brown, who’s been held at Washington County jail since he was arrested, credit for time served.
Brown was one of three people accused by Canonsburg police of kicking in the door and threatening two women with a gun in an attempt to find a safe they believed was in the house.
Robert Austin Jr., 19, of Washington allegedly had a pill bottle with one of the victim’s names on it when Chartiers police took him into custody near the home. Austin was scheduled to enter a plea before Gilman May 2. That appearance was moved to July 26 at the request of Austin’s attorney, Christopher Sherwood, who asked for the continuance because of ongoing plea negotiations in the case.
A third defendant charged in the incident, Nathanial Sele, 20, of Canonsburg is being held in Washington County jail. He is scheduled to appear before District Judge Jay Weller for a preliminary hearing June 1.
