WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (AP) — Deputies in Mingo County are warning Halloween trick-or-treaters to check their candy before eating it after a needle was found in a child’s candy bar.

WSAZ-TV reports that the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department says a parent made the discovery Monday night while going through the child’s candy.

The needle was discovered in a mini Snickers bar. The child had been trick-or-treating in parts of the county and Pike County, Kentucky.

Meanwhile, Clarksburg Police Chief Robert Hilliard told The Exponent Telegram that a child was taken to the hospital there when he felt sick after eating Halloween candy. Hilliard said a powdery substance found on the candy is being tested.
