Peters Township police have identified the driver who was seriously injured in an accident Sunday afternoon in the 800 block of Venetia Road.

Timmie George, 54, of 884 Linden Road, North Strabane, crashed his vehicle into a concrete pillar in front of a house at 2:28 p.m., according to Peters police, who said he suffered severe head trauma and continues to be hospitalized.

According to reports, a Southwest Regional police officer attempted to stop George for equipment violations while he was driving in Union Township during an afternoon rainstorm. Two vehicles in front of his pulled over, but he took off at high speed, police said, adding there was no chase prior to the wreck.

Peters police are investigating and said they plan to file charges, depending on George’s condition.

He is being treated at UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, where a hospital spokeswoman said he was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
