Victim advocates added to District Attorney staff
Washington County District Attorney Gene Vittone announced Monday the addition of two victim advocates in the Office of Victim Services.
Corey Watkins of Monongahela will work with the victims of juvenile offenders, and Amy Mazanetz of Donora will work with victims of adult offenders.
Advocates support victims of crimes by accompanying them to hearings, opening compensation claims, collecting restitution information and advocating on their behalf.
“We have made the enhancement of victim services a priority in the office. It is important to me that victims of crime are supported throughout the criminal justice process, which is often stressful and confusing,” said Vittone in a news release. “Having Amy and Corey join us in serving the needs of crime victims will help us achieve this goal.”
The positions are largely funded by grants from the state Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
