Donegal residents vote on size of local board
A referendum in Donegal Township to increase the size of the board of supervisors to five from the current three passed overwhelmingly in Tuesday’s general election.
The vote was 673, or nearly 62 percent, voting yes to 416 voting no, representing 38.2 percent of the votes cast at Donegal’s three polling precincts.
Enlarging the number of seats on the board of supervisors and candidates running for the positions would take place during next year’s municipal primary and general election.
Doug Teagarden, vice chairman of the board of supervisors, said all three members of the board were in favor of holding the referendum, but that supervisors paid from their own pockets to ask residents to vote against the measure.
During the past year, the township has been embroiled in a many-faceted dispute over the enactment of a proposed zoning ordinance.
