No one was injured Thursday morning when a pickup truck crashed head-on into a coal truck along Route 218 in Franklin Township, causing the rig to rollover onto its side, state police said.

Police said Shane D. Pettersen, 35, of Waynesburg, was driving south on Route 218 shortly after 7 a.m. when he crossed the centerline and crashed into the northbound coal truck near Randy Hoge Road.

The crash caused the coal truck, driven by Frankie L. Harris, 57, of Pentress, W.Va., to go off the road and roll onto its passenger side, dumping its load onto the southbound lane of the highway, police said.

Another car driven by Russell Radley, 29, of Waynesburg, was following the coal truck and struck by a wheel that had broken off the pickup truck, police said.

State police said all the pickup and coal truck were heavily damaged and had to be towed from the scene. The southbound lane of Route 218 was closed for about two hours while state police investigated the crash and Waynesburg-Franklin firefighters assisted at the scene.
