A Donora man will receive a new sentence in a 2013 drug case in light of new charges he faces in connection with the August beating of a woman at a home in Charleroi.

Washington County Judge Michael Lucas revoked parole and probation for Terry L. Newton, 27, who is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and flight to avoid apprehension. Charleroi police said Newton struck Raven Randall, 24, with a freezer and dehumidifier, causing injuries that required hospitalization, at her house early in the morning Aug. 17.

Newton is being held at the county jail on $1 million bond in the case.

The county adult probation office sought the revocation of his sentence in a 2013 drug case in which he pleaded guilty in April to charges of possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia. In that case, Lucas sentenced him to six to 23 months in jail and one year of probation.

Assistant District Attorney Rachel Wheeler argued the prosecution established under state law Newton violated conditions of his probation at a Sept. 1 preliminary hearing, where a district judge held the new charges against him for trial.

Lucas revoked Newton’s probation and parole in that case but said he would await the outcome of the attempted homicide charge before ordering a new sentence.

Newton declined to address the court during the proceeding.
