Barricaded man fires on officers, kills self, police say
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say a suspect barricaded inside a Philadelphia home is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after officers dodged bullets during a five-hour standoff that included a temporary halt to SEPTA’s Norristown-Manayunk line.
Police didn’t identify the suspect in the standoff that began before dawn Saturday. Officers responded to a report of an armed man barricaded inside a River Road home along the Schuylkill River.
Arriving officers were fired on by the man before he apparently killed himself. No officers were reported injured.
Police shut down River Road and ordered residents to stay inside homes.
Police tell WCAU-TV (http://bit.ly/2gJXQW7 ) that the man fired as many as 70 shots and had 29 guns registered in his name. Police had surrounded the house with SWAT teams and boats patrolling the Schuylkill River.
