Washington County residents were talking about the possibility of ferocious felines in the area after photos purporting to a feature a bobcat killed by a motorist and another of a mountain lion were shared on a popular Washington County Facebook group. We spoke with a Pennsylvania Game Commission official to comment on these claims.

A Waynesburg man is accused by federal investigators of defrauding a small, family-owned natural gas company of “hundreds of thousands of dollars” during the five years he worked as the company’s operations manager.

Kevin C. Conklin, 54, of 2540 Smith Creek Road, defrauded Aleppo-based Mountain Energy Ltd. while serving as its day-to-day operations manager between January 2008 and December 2012, according to a seven-count federal grand jury indictment handed down Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

An early-morning fire Saturday caused heavy damage to a three-story apartment building in Charleroi, leaving three tenants homeless and sending one person to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

Charleroi fire Chief Robert Whiten Jr. said his department was called to 803 Fallowfield Ave. about 3 a.m. and found a bedroom on the third floor on fire.

Burgettstown burst onto the field and celebrated a 28-0 win against Beth-Center at soggy Hill Memorial Stadium in Burgettstown Friday night. The win pushed the Blue Devils mark to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in Century Conference play while the Bulldogs fell to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in conference.
