Surveillance photo of the Metro PCS robber released
Washington police released a surveillance photograph of the man who robbed a North Main Street cellphone store at gunpoint Thursday morning.
A black man with short dreadlocks and wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt robbed the Metro PCS store, 57 N. Main St. The robber reportedly stole cash and a wallet. He fled on foot, going north on North Main.
Police also are still investigating an attempted robbery later that morning at the Washington Financial branch, 98 E. Wylie Ave., in the city’s Tylerdale section. The robber was unable to get into the lobby because the door was locked. The bank put in place extra security measures after several previous robberies.
The would-be robber grabbed the door handle, but then turned and left because he could not get inside the bank. A bank employee told police the suspect had a gun. He is seen on surveillance tucking something down inside his pants as he walked away.
The robber was white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a slim to medium build. He wore a red bandana over the bottom of his face and may have been wearing sunglasses. The robber ran in the direction of Jefferson Avenue. Witnesses told police he got into a white Pontiac, but the make of the car has not been verified.
Anyone with information on the robberies or who recognizes the suspects is asked to call city police at 724-223-4226.
