Bear that charged motorcycle officer trapped, relocated
MEDIA (AP) – A black bear that charged a motorcycle officer in suburban Philadelphia last month and caused two schools to lockdown has been trapped and relocated.
The Delaware County Daily Times reports rangers at Ridley Creek State Park lured the bear with doughnuts, maple syrup and honey. He was transported to state game lands in Dauphin County.
Justin Ritter, the state Game Commission’s Wildlife Conservation Officer for Delaware County, says the bear was relocated for its own safety after it knocked over a resident’s bee hives. He says they were afraid the bear would start traveling out of the park.
Ritter says the 210-pound bear wasn’t a threat, but it recently caused the two school lockdowns. The bear also charged a Radnor officer, causing him to abandon his bike.
