Pittsburgh Water & Sewer suing former management firm Veolia
PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority is suing a Boston firm that managed the agency for more than three years, blaming it for problems ranging from inaccurate customer bills to problems with chemicals used to control corrosion and lead in water lines.
Veolia Water North America-Northeast says it’s preparing a statement on the lawsuit announced Wednesday.
The lawsuit contends Veolia underperformed or botched various operations when it had a contract to manage the authority from July 2012 through the end of last year. The authority is seeking up to $12.5 million in damages – the amount the authority has paid or still owes Veolia under the contract.
The authority blames Veolia for changing the chemicals the authority says caused lead levels to climb to near a federal safety threshold.
