Suspects sought in city home invasion
Washington police are looking for two men, one armed with a handgun, who reportedly tried to force their way into a home in the 1100 block of Arch Street Tuesday night.
Police were called about 7:20 p.m. for a report of a burglary in progress. Gary Wells told police he heard pounding on the door and saw his nephew, Markus Goodman, hanging on to the door. They then heard the sound of a window breaking at the rear of the house, Wells reported.
Goodman told police he went outside and saw two men, one who appeared Hispanic and the other who wore a hooded shirt and dark ski mask and was holding a silver, semi-automatic handgun. The gunman reportedly told Goodman, “Don’t move or I will shoot you,” and then racked the slide of the gun.
Goodman told police he ran back inside the house, holding the door. He saw the two men get into a tan Buick and drive in the direction of Maple Avenue. He was also able to give police a license plate number for the car.
A short time later, police found the car parked in the 600 block of North Main Street. Goodman was able to identify the vehicle. Police impounded the car. Police also recovered a glove outside the broken window at the home.
Goodman told police neither he nor his uncle were having problems with anyone.
Police are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 724-223-4226.
