Greene County Food Security Partnership is hosting a free four-week workshop with healthy cooking demonstrations by Chef Bill Aupperle of Lardin House (Oct. 19 and 26) and Community Volunteer Ruth Enci (Nov. 2 and 9). Information will be presented on home gardening, food safety, canning/freezing foods and couponing. All sessions will be held 10 a.m. to noon in the Community Room at Gateway Senior Housing located at 330 Nazer St., Waynesburg. Save-A-Horse Stable, located at 165 Lightner Run Road near Rogersville, is holding an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday for the public to meet the dozens of horses that live on the farm. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 9 and younger. There will be tours, games, food and music during the open house. There will be a special worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Oak View United Methodist Church at 160 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg. The church building was consecrated Oct. 21, 1981, under the leadership of the Rev. William Ryan. There will be special music by Chancel Choir directed by Pam Hall, a presentation of the history of the church and a covered dish dinner to follow worship. Former pastors attending are reverends Robert Bedison, Gary Gregg and Jerrod Peterman. The public is invited to attend.
Greene County Leathernecks and Waynesburg Moose Lodge will host a Toys for Tots elimination dinner at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 5 at the lodge. The public is invited to attend the $20 buffet dinner, with all proceeds going to Toys for Tots, a program that collects Christmas toys for children in need. Carmichaels Activity Center, also known as Carmichaels Senior Center on Nemacolin Road, will host a dance from 7-10 p.m. Friday featuring the country band Birmingham. Admission is $8, and the proceeds benefit the center.
