Police beat Oct. 14
Suspected drugs found: Canonsburg police said a state constable found an empty cigarette pack that had five balloons inside containing suspected drugs in the unisex bathroom on the second floor of the Canonsburg Borough Building, East Pike Street, Wednesday morning. Police opted not to have the contents tested because the number of people who use the restroom makes it impossible to determine who may have left the pack.
Drug charges: Michael Borkowski, 37, of Washington, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia after he was found last week with suspected drugs while in the parking lot of a business in the 2400 block of Jefferson Avenue, Canton, state police said.
Charged in stop: Matthew Phillips, 22, of 132 Moon Road, Washington, was charged this week by state police with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, as well as traffic violations, stemming from a Sept. 3 traffic stop in the 800 block of Henderson Avenue, Canton. Police said he had suspected Oxycontin. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Trespass charge: Louis R. Phillips, 57, of 205 Roosevelt St., North Franklin Township, was charged this week by state police with criminal trespass after he allegedly was found on property at 19 Prigg Road, Canton, without permission on July 4. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Information used: Donald Riggans of Hopewell Township told state police that his personal information was used to open an account with Amazon in August, and then several items were charged to that account. State police reported the incident Wednesday.
Drug charges: Zachary K. Laughlin, 27, of 233 N. Main St., Washington, was charged Friday by North Strabane police with possession of heroin, marijuana and paraphernalia. Police said he had the drugs when he was found passed out in his vehicle at a Racetrack Road gasoline station Sept. 12. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
DUI alleged in crash: Daniel Board, 42, of Wellsville, Ohio, will be charged by Smith police with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a crash and reckless endangerment after he allegedly sideswiped the JMX Supply building at Smith Township State Road and McNair Street just before noon Wednesday and fled. Chief Bernie Larue found the pickup truck behind 1939 Smith Township State Road and said Board was found hiding on a porch. Board also allegedly forced two vehicles off the road. The building was heavily damaged. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Gary Havelka.
Two-vehicle crash: One person was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after a two-vehicle crash about 2 p.m. Wednesday in front of 72 Davis School Road, South Strabane police said. One vehicle went over a hillside and landed on the roof, but the driver was able to get out of it. The driver of a second vehicle was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital. Additional details were not immediately available Thursday.
Wallet stolen: David Szarell of 312 Washington Woods Drive told South Strabane police Saturday that his wallet containing credit cards and $200 was stolen from his vehicle.
Theft charge: Larry Amos, 33, of Griffith Avenue, Washington, was charged Tuesday by South Strabane police with theft by deception after he allegedly tried to return a stolen toilet to Lowe’s, Strabane Square, for a gift card on Monday. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Marijuana charge: Author Polite, 24, of Fairborn, Ohio, was charged Thursday by Washington police with possession of marijuana after he was allegedly was found with the drug Sept. 15 when police were checking out a report of suspicious activity in the 500 block of West Chestnut Street. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
