O-R completes round of layoffs, restructuring
The Observer-Reporter has completed a round of layoffs as it institutes a restructuring plan during a time of reduced revenue.
O-R publisher Tom Northrop said 29 full- and part-time employees were affected by the layoffs announced Thursday.
“It’s a restructuring,” Northrop said, explaining the newspaper has been negatively impacted by declining revenue from national retail accounts.
“It was a painful, difficult decision,” he said. Following the workforce reduction, the newspaper now employs 122 full- and part-time employees.
In addition to its headquarters at 122 S. Main St., Northrop said the The Almanac, the O-R’s weekly newspaper based on Boyce Road in Peters Township.
“We will be making a few tweaks to the product in the coming weeks,” he said.
“Our goal is to remain an independently owned and operated newspaper.”
