A Pittsburgh man was arrested Monday night by Washington County Drug Task Force detectives after leading them and other police on a chase through a Canton Township neighborhood.

Dana Jerome Moore, 49, fled in his vehicle when he was approached by detectives following an apparent drug transaction on Woodland Avenue in Washington with a person driving a pickup truck. Moore fled at a high rate of speed on Woodland to Griffith Street before turning onto Hawkins Street and Ford Street when he crashed into a utility pole. Moore was the only person in the car.

Task force detectives had received information from a confidential source about a heroin deal involving a person in the truck. Task force detectives along with Washington, South Strabane Township and state police and Washington County sheriff’s deputies had the truck under surveillance when Moore approached in his vehicle.

Rick Gluth, task force director, said that the task force was not familiar with Moore.

“That’s why he was approached because we did not know who he was,” Gluth said.

The investigation is continuing. Gluth said there is the possibility of charges being filed against others.

Moore was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin, conspiracy, fleeing or attempting to elude police and reckless endangerment. He was placed in Washington County Jail on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled for a Nov. 2 preliminary hearing before Mark.
