Group encourages home ownership in Charleroi
CHARLEROI – The Mon Valley Initiative is offering cash incentives to encourage people to invest in home ownership in Charleroi as it attempts to match them Sunday with houses in the borough.
The Homestead-based group is offering qualified buyers as much as $10,000 each to assist them in making a down payment and pay for closing costs on several houses that are on the market in Charleroi.
The event will be begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the borough building, 338 Fallowfield Ave., and it includes a self-guided house tour, a session with experts from PrimeLending and refreshments from Fourth Street Barbeque, the initiative stated in a news release.
There are nearly a dozen houses on the market that will be open for inspection Sunday, but not all of them are in the borough and qualify for the cost-assistance program. A number of real estate agents also will participate in the event.
It’s geared toward people who want to live in Charleroi and not for landlords or speculators.
The orientation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by house tours from 3 to 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served from 5 to 6 p.m.
