WAYNESBURG – A Dilliner man, who pleaded guilty in September to receiving stolen property and persons not to possess, sell or transfer firearms, was sentenced Monday to 12 to 28 months in state prison.

Nathaniel Lee Chipps, 20, of 2389 S. Eighty Eight Road, was arrested after he sold another man a .45-caliber pistol Feb. 20 in Bobtown. The gun was registered to Clinton Morrison, who told police he had not given anyone permission to possess his gun.

Chipps had asked Monday to be sentenced to County Intermediate Punishment, citing his struggle with substance abuse.

“I’ve heard that CIP helps people get clean and recover,” he said.

Greene County Judge Lou Dayich said in court that he was considering the seriousness of the charges and Chipps’ juvenile record involving firearms, when he sentenced him to state prison.

Dayich gave Chipps credit for time served since Oct. 21 and recommended the Department of Corrections consider Chipps for its Motivational Boot Camp, a program designed for young inmates who struggle with addiction.

Chipps is also eligible for Recidivism Risk Reduction Incentive, which allows him early parole with good behavior.
