Fire damages North Bethlehem home
A fire early Monday morning damaged a home in North Bethlehem Township. Firefighters were called about 4:20 a.m. to the two-story frame home at 1452 E. National Pike, said Keith Van Varenburg, Lone Pine fire chief. A woman in the house was awakened by smoke detectors going off and smelled smoke. She was able to get out of the home safely.
Van Varenburg said the fire started on the first floor near a stairwell and was contained to a room next to the stairs. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
The state police fire marshal has been called to investigate the cause. Cokeburg and Richeyville firefighters assisted at the scene.
