A use-by-right and subdivision application for a new Dollar General store at 710-730 Jefferson Ave. and an application for a used car lot at 1050 Jefferson Ave. were recommended for approval by the Washington planning commission Wednesday.

According to Ron McIntyre, city code enforcement officer, representatives of PennTex Ventures and CEC Environmental Consultants, developers for Dollar General, said the store will relocate from the current location on West Beau Street. The new facility will have 30 parking spaces, with the expectation most customers will be pedestrians.

Developers said the store will be 20 to 30 percent larger, with more merchandise and staff. Landscaping and fencing will buffer the site.

Jim and Nico Veltri of Veltri Brothers Property presented plans for a used car lot, which will house 30 to 50 automobiles, described as medium-to-higher-end used cars, trucks and SUVs.

Salvatore Veltri of Veltri Cleaners, 1017 Jefferson Ave., is not involved in the project.

The family said the new lot will not have any impact on the cleaning business.

Mayor and council are scheduled to vote on the developments during their regular meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 15.
