The West Finley Township man accused of kidnapping his wife and then fatally shooting her has been removed from life support.

An autopsy was done Friday on 47-year-old Kevin Ewing. He was declared brain dead Wednesday afternoon at UPMC, Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was taken for treatment of what the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office determined was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He reportedly shot himself minutes after shooting 48-year-old Tierne Ewing in the abdomen and head in a barn on Walnut Valley Road in West Finley. Police said Kevin Ewing took his wife to that location after kidnapping her at gunpoint from his mother’s home about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Ewing had been free on $100,000 bond but on electronic monitoring while awaiting trial on charges filed by North Strabane Township police for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his wife earlier this summer, holding her against her will for 12 days.
