Child endangerment charge for mother
An East Bethlehem Township mother was charged with endangering the welfare of children after state police were called after her 4-year-old son was found standing on the back deck of another home in the township in July.
Amanda Nicole DeMoss, 26, of 45 Clark St., Clarksville, was charged Friday.
Police were called July 3 to a residence on Taylor Avenue for a report of a young boy wandering around Clarksville unsupervised. A trooper spoke to the resident, who said he walked outside and found the boy on the back deck of his home. The boy was alone.
The resident told police the boy apparently could not speak but was pointing, so he walked the 4-year-old around Clarksville. The boy recognized his house and began pointing. When the Good Samaritan knocked on the door of the residence on Berry Avenue, there was no answer. He then opened the door and yelled inside but again got no response. He then called 911.
When police arrived, the man said he had the boy with him for at least an hour. Police said they went to the house and found DeMoss. The inside of the house was in deplorable condition for a child, police stated in court documents, indicating the house was dirty and smelled of animal feces and urine. There also was no food in the refrigerator, police said.
The charge against DeMoss, who apparently moved since the incident, was sent by summons from the office of District Judge Joshua Kanalis. She is scheduled for an Oct. 17 preliminary hearing before Kanalis.
