Southwest Project Grass events scheduled
Southwest Project Grass is collaborating with local conservation districts, including Greene County Conservation District, to sponsor educational events on the topics of grazing, pasture management and soil health experiences.
On Sept. 29, the group will hold the annual Grassland Evaluation Contest at the Ag Progress Days site in Pennsylvania Furnace. This contest is for high school-age students and offers scholarships to the winners.
On Sept. 30, the group, in partnership with Fayette County Conservation District, will hold its annual conference at the Dan Komarinski’s beef farm. The speakers will include Dr. Dustin Davis, veterinary medicine; Dr. Ed Rayburn, West Virginia University extension specialist; and Dr. Jessica Williamson, Penn State University forage specialist.
Registration information for the events is available on our website www.swprojectgrass.com.
Southwest Project Grass is a coordinating committee of 14 counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania committed to assist farm operators in evaluating, using and protecting the land, according to its capability for forage production. The purpose of these events is to promote improved pasture and rotational grazing systems for better forage production, quality and utilization while considering the economic impact of these management decisions.
