PITTSBURGH (AP) – Officials say a 17-year-old student was wounded in a shooting across the street from a high school and then ran into the building where he was treated by the school nurse until paramedics arrived.

Pittsburgh Public School District spokeswoman Ebony Pugh says Perry Traditional Academy was on lockdown over the shooting Thursday morning. The school is also known as Pittsburgh Perry High School.

Pittsburgh police and emergency crews were called to the school just before 8 a.m.

Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Schaffer says three juveniles are in custody and officers are collecting surveillance video from the area.

She says the student was shot in the hip and was transported to Allegheny General Hospita in serious condition.

The lockdown was lifted at 9:30 a.m. and parents were allowed to pick up their children.
