A Washington resident was shot in an early morning home invasion Friday.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, his girlfriend and a 3-year-old child were asleep when three masked men entered their home in the 1400 block of Allison Avenue about 4:45 a.m.

“The male victim stands up to confront them because there was someone in his room. Assailant one fires a shot and hits (the victim’s) right hand,” said Washington police Lt. Dan Stanek.

The intruders demanded access to a safe and took a large quantity of cash and a box containing the ashes of a deceased relative.

Stanek said the victims didn’t recognize the intruders’ voices. There are no suspects.

Physical evidence from the home was sent to a lab for analysis. Officers interviewed neighbors, but so far no one saw or heard anything during the incident. It’s not known if the men fled on foot or had a vehicle.

Stanek said there were no signs of forced entry, and he believes the men entered through the front door.

The victim was taken via ambulance to Washington Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Stanek asked anyone with information call 724-223-4226.
