Claysville welcome center closed
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation welcome center on Interstate 70 east near Claysville is closed temporarily as crews work to clean up an acid leak.
The driver of a tanker truck noticed the leak around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday. About five gallons of acrylic acid spilled from the truck, said Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi, who was updated by the county’s emergency services department.
A 911 supervisor said the leak was completely contained.
Maggi said a welcome center worker was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.
Washington County Hazardous Materials Response Team members responded. Maggi said the remaining material will be transferred to another truck. He expected the welcome center to remain closed through Tuesday night.
