A Monessen man pummeled his cousin in the head with a crowbar Monday, leaving him bloody, confused and without his wallet, Monessen police said.

Dwayne “Peenie” Grogan, 45, of 31 Columbus Drive, was arraigned Wednesday on charges stemming from the attack on Allen Duncan, whom Grogan allegedly robbed.

A witness, Kevin Lisovich, told police Grogan “came out of nowhere” when he started an argument at 1246 Knox Ave. with Duncan and the victim tried to escape an altercation with Grogan by retreating into his house, according to court documents. When Duncan turned around, Grogan struck him in the head with a crowbar and took his money and wallet once he fell to the ground. Lisovich said Duncan was unconscious for about a minute before going inside, locking the door and calling police. Lisovich followed Duncan through an unlocked window and when police arrived he was confused and didn’t respond to questions.

He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.

Police responded to the Columbus Drive address where “Grogan is known to stay with his mother” after he drove away from the scene, according to the criminal affadavit. Carol Grogan greeted officers saying “she knew why they were there,” and that he Grogan asked for money so he could “get away for a while.” Grogan’s mother told police she didn’t have any money to give him and he fled without his vehicle.

Police arrested Grogan on Wednesday and he was placed in the Westmoreland County Prison on $50,000 bond.

He faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, robbery and theft, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Joseph Dalfonso Sept. 23 at 10:45 a.m.
