Crucible man ordered to stand trial on rape charges
A Cumberland Township man accused of raping two girls in his Crucible home in separate cases, one of which dates to 2000, was held for court on all charges during his preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon.
Leonard L. Glendenning, 49, of 431 E. Fifth Ave., was ordered to stand trial by District Judge Lee Watson on three counts each of rape, statutory sex assault and indecent assault, four counts of aggravated indecent assault, two counts of child endangerment and one charge of corruption of minors.
State police said he raped two girls in his home, one in 2000 when she was 13 and the other girl on at least four occasions over several years, beginning in 2010 when she was 10.
Investigators were contacted of the situation Aug. 16 through an anonymous tip through the ChildLine services that helps authorities and Children and Youth Services workers receive information about crimes against children.
Police spoke to one of the accusers, now an adult, who told them Aug. 23 she was raped in the summer of 2000 when she was 13, and sexual abuse occurred several other times, investigators said. The other accuser told state police that same day that she was molested and raped multiple times between 2010 and 2014 while she was entering her teen years.
Glendenning was arrested Aug. 30 and is being held at the Greene County jail on $50,000. His public defender, Harry Cancelmi, could not be reached for comment following the preliminary hearing.
Watson set Glendenning’s formal arraignment for Oct. 31 at 9 a.m. in Greene County Courthouse.
