North Belle Vernon fireman dies after falling at home
A North Belle Vernon volunteer firefighter has died from injuries he suffered in a fall at his Fayette County home as he was preparing for duty.
Charles E. Horan, 61, died Wednesday after he tripped and suffered a severe injury at his Washington Township home about 10:50 a.m. Monday, the U.S. Fire Administration stated on its website.
Horan died of trauma to his torso and his death in Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Hills, was ruled an accident, the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said.
Horan was a safety officer for the fire department and he was preparing to respond to a call to help police gain access to a roof at the time of his accident, according to the fire administration. He was treated at his home at 2223 Hoffman St. by fellow emergency responders.
Horan was a retired equipment operator with the state Department of Transportation. Members of his fire department will conduct services at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Parzynski Funeral Home and Cremations, 626 Broad Ave., North Belle Vernon. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the North Belle Vernon Fire Department Social Hall, 545 Broad Ave.
