The Washington woman accused of crashing her pickup truck into a Jefferson Avenue beer distributor in late July was charged last week by Washington police.

Aurora Dawn McMahon, 24, of 135 Henderson Ave., was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident that damaged unattended property. Police said her blood-alcohol content was almost double the 0.08 percent limit at which intoxication is presumed.

Police said McMahon was traveling north on Jefferson near Tyler Avenue in the early morning hours of July 28 when she crossed all lanes of traffic and crashed into the building housing Beck’s Tobacco and Beer at 885 Jefferson.

Police said she then backed up and continued north on Jefferson for about a block before leaving the truck under the Interstate 70 viaduct and fleeing.

Police said she later went to Washington Hospital for treatment. The truck was impounded by police. The crash caused extensive damage to the front of the building. Some of the damaged inventory inside the store included 300 cases of craft beer, the owner, Robert Beck, said hours after the crash.

The charges are being sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.

McMahon is slated for a preliminary hearing before Redlinger on Oct. 24.
