WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg woman who failed to comply with the conditions of her sentence for selling and possessing cocaine was resentenced Wednesday by Greene County Judge Lou Dayich to 15 to 36 months in prison.

Shawna Jean Jeffries, 27, of 401 Sugar Run Road, was sentenced in December to three years in the county intermediate punishment program, for which she was required to spend the first 30 days under house arrest.

Jeffries pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance, possession and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance for selling $150 worth of cocaine April 23, 2014, to a confidential informant working with the Greene County Drug Task Force.

She also pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with a July 1, 2014, drug sale in which she was found in possession of cocaine, Buprenorphine and a syringe.

In his order, Dayich said he was sentencing Jeffries in the “aggravated range” of the sentencing guidelines.

He explained Jeffries had failed to complete a required inpatient drug rehabilitation program and had multiple parole and probation violations.

“As such, the court believes that the lengthy sentence imposed serves the needs of the defendant in terms of rehabilitation,” Dayich wrote.

Dayich also cited in his order the gravity of Jeffries’ offenses, noting she was charged with selling drugs, has had “multiple infractions” related to drugs and continues to remain part of the “drug culture.”

“…(T)he court deems that this sentence is necessary for the protection of the public as dealing drugs continues to be not only an issue for the defendant but also for the community at large,” he wrote.

Dayich also noted Jeffries is expecting a child and said he believed her incarceration would be the best way to protect her unborn child. Jeffries was given credit for 162 days in jail.
