False alarm: No active shooter at Consol Energy in Southpinte
An active shooter alarm that came in about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Consol Energy headquarters in Southpointe was quickly determined to be a false alarm.
Cecil Township police Chief Shawn Bukovinsky said the call came in to the company’s office at 1000 Consol Energy Drive. An officer was in the area and responded within a minute.
“It was swiftly identified as a false alarm,” Bukovinsky said. “But we had a lot of telephone calls come in to us about it.”
Bukovinsky explained that the company has a new alarm system that employees can sign up to get alerts. He said police identified the employee trying to install the app on his cellphone who accidentally activated the system.
The Washington Critical Response Team was alerted but not called in, he added. Also responding were officers from Canonsburg and North Strabane and Peters townships.
