Action: Council declared three structures as public nuisances and authorized their release to the Redevelopment Authority of Washington County for demolition. The properties are 31 W. Walnut St., 420 W. Chestnut St. and 660 Jefferson Ave.
A use-by-right and subdivision application for a new Dollar General store at 710-730 Jefferson Ave. was approved, as was a use-by-right application for a used car lot at 1050 Jefferson Ave. The lot, owned by Veltri Brothers Property, must be finished with asphalt or concrete by May 29, 2017.
Council accepted the resignation of Cynthia Griffin, city clerk, who recently took the position as chief clerk of Washington County. Michelle Sperl was hired to replace Griffin at an annual salary of $31,785.
Council extended the contract of Lynn Galluze, computer systems coordinator, for three years. The contract includes a $3-an-hour pay increase.
The city building will be closed Oct. 10 in observance of Columbus Day.
Trick or Treat is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
