Police Beat Sept. 29
Gun stolen: Rudy Plants of 205 Neely School Road, Blaine, told state police earlier this month a gun was stolen from his home.
Charged in crash: Shelley J. Lahew, 58, of 255 Walnut Road, Claysville, was charged Wednesday by state police with driving under the influence of alcohol stemming from a Sept. 1 crash at Green Valley and Wigington roads, Buffalo. Police said she crashed through a fence. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Ethan Ward.
House burglarized: Amanda Snatchko of 157 Smith St. told Canonsburg police Tuesday a 70-inch television, two X-box game players, four controllers, a Coach wallet and necklace were stolen in a burglary of her home.
Clerk bilked: A quick-change artist bilked a clerk at Walgreens, Cavasina Drive, out of $260 Friday, Canonsburg police said. Store management made the report Tuesday, telling police the suspect is a white woman in her 30s who wore her dark hair in a bun. She wore a dark dress with white trim, large, gold hoop earrings and a gold watch.
Firearms violations alleged: Matthew Curtis McCombs, 29, of Washington, was arrested Tuesday by state police on charges stemming from a Sept. 18 incident that began at Grove and Wayne avenues in Canton. McCombs is charged with firearms violations, flight to avoid apprehension, fleeing or attempting to elude police and several traffic violations. When police tried to stop him, they said he sped off before stopping on West Chestnut Street in Washington and then running on foot. He was identified by use of a mobile video recording device in the cruiser, as well as by the vehicle owner. Police said they found a gun in the vehicle with an obliterated serial number. McCombs was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Husband arrested: John R. Doak, 37, of 629 Dry Ridge Road, Donegal, was arrested earlier this month by Donegal police after he allegedly kicked a hot charcoal grill at his wife and threatened to chop off her head during a confrontation at their home. He was released from Washington County jail after posting $25,000 bond.
Charged in crash: A car ran off Route 481 south near Sanders Way at 7 a.m. Saturday and hit an embankment and a tree, state police said. The driver, Joseph Zyra, 53, of Bentleyville, allegedly fled but later turned himself in to police. He was cited for failing to provide immediate notice of an accident.
Three charged: Michael D. Slider, 32, and Brandi Mae Knisely, 32, both of 257 Bells Lake Road, Prosperity, and Aaron W. Bedillion, 24, of 112 Green St., Claysville, were charged Wednesday by state police with simple assault and harassment after police said they were involved in a physical altercation at the Bells Lake Road home Aug. 25. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Ethan Ward.
Drug charges: Hannah V. Wenzel, 25, of 1652 Elderslee Road, Pittsburgh, was charged by state police after a traffic stop Monday. According to the complaint, Wenzel was stopped near the Interstate 70 off-ramp on West Chestnut Street. She allegedly had six open bottles of beer in her vehicle and marijuana in a jar. Charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as motor vehicle citations, will be sent from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Harassment charge: Brooke E. Schweitzer, 22, of 955 S Bridge Road, Prosperity, was charged Monday by state police with harassment after she allegedly left repeated messages on a man’s home phone soliciting for money between July and September. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Ethan Ward.
Two charged: Danielle Dyson, 39, of 436 Brad Ave., Washington, and Rhonda Singleton, 51, of 49 North Ave., Washington, were charged Friday by South Strabane police in connection with a Sept. 17 theft at Walmart, Trinity Point. Dyson is charged with false identification to police, retail theft and conspiracy. She allegedly gave police an incorrect name and Social Security number after stealing items from the store. Singleton is charged with theft by deception and conspiracy. She is accused of trying to return the items allegedly stolen by Dyson for a gift card. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Theft, receiving charges: Chase Jackson, 22, of 920 E. Maiden St., Washington, was charged Friday by South Strabane police with theft and receiving stolen property. He is accused of stealing a laptop, tablet and Playstation from a man staying in a room at Motel 6, Motel 6 Drive, on Sept. 9 and selling the items at a Washington pawn shop. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Chain saws stolen: Four Husqvarna chain saws valued at $5,000 were reported stolen Tuesday from trucks owned by Asplundh of Pittsburgh while the vehicles were parked at Canterbury Court, 235 W. Chestnut St., Washington police said.
Cellphone stolen: Jamel Edwards of Washington told Washington police Tuesday his son’s iPhone and case were stolen from his locker while he was practicing at Washington High School Stadium on Tyler Avenue.
Assault charge: Jamie Walden, 23, of 652 Maple Terrace, Washington, was charged with simple assault for allegedly striking Jamie Johnson in the face and body several times June 7 on Mill Street. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Theft charge: Jaimie E. Finseth, 30, of 6011 Wellsey St., Pittsburgh, was charged by Washington police with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the complaint, Finseth stole items from Shop ‘n Save, 125 W. Beau St., on Sept. 20 without paying and was found to be in possession of needles, a stamp bag and three pills. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
