Crucible Township man charged with child endangerment
A 25-year-old Crucible man was charged by Cumberland Township police with two counts of child endangerment after officers said they found him passed out on the couch while he was supposed to be caring for his two young children earlier this month.
Police said they responded to Zacharey Michael Coger’s residence at 102 Winter St. for a welfare check on his children, an infant and a 2-year-old boy, about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 14.
According to court documents, police knocked on the door several times with no response but a baby’s cry. Police entered the home, which was unlocked, and found Coger “passed out” on the couch, the complaint said. The infant was crying in a car seat and the 2-year-old had a sagging diaper, police said.
After police woke him, Coger made a bottle for the toddler but could not find formula for the infant. Police said Coger told them the infant had not had a bottle since 10 p.m. the night before.
Police said Coger then told them he fell asleep after taking subutex and smoking marijuana. Police found two pills within reach of the children along with a tin of “an assortment of pills,” with no prescriptions, the complaint said.
Coger took a urine test, which police said tested positive for opioids, cocaine and benzos.
Police later found formula in Coger’s car for the infant. Child and Youth Services was contacted, police said.
