Assault charges: Walter Robert Mitchell, 37, of 723 Dillie Road, Prosperity, was charged by state police with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment for allegedly assaulting a woman Monday night in her Franklin Township apartment. Police said Mitchell struck her in the hallway outside her Mountainview Gardens apartment. The woman told police that he pinned her into a corner of the hallway, punched her in the nose, grabbed her by the throat to choke her and head-butted her. He allegedly then forced her into her apartment, where he was also staying at the time, and forced her to the ground, continuing to choke her, according to the criminal complaint. Police said the assault took place in front of the woman’s 11-year-old son, who went to a neighbor’s residence. Police said the woman managed to free herself from Mitchell and also ran to a neighbor’s apartment, where she called police. Police said Mitchell left the scene and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Theft: Joshua Edward Policz, 35, of 105 First St., Jefferson, was charged with theft for allegedly stealing a $530 battery-operated saw from Lingis Manufacturing in Franklin Township Jan. 2, state police said. Police said that the owner of Lingis contacted police to report that while the company was having renovations done to the office, 613 Browns Creek Road, the saw was stolen. Policz was employed by Timber Ridge Contracting, which was the company doing the renovations. Policz told police in an interview last week that he took the saw because he believed that it was the property of Timber Ridge Contracting and “his paychecks from the company had bounced,” the criminal complaint said. Police said Policz sold the saw to Marko Demaske for $125. Demaske told police that when he found out it was stolen he sold it back to Timber Ridge Contracting for $125, and Timber Ridge then gave it back to Lingis Manufacturing.

Fugitive arrested: Greene County sheriff’s deputies arrested Amnie Lawver, 55, of Uniontown, during a traffic stop Thursday night in Monongahela Township. Sheriff Brian Tennant said Lawver was wanted for failing to appear on felony drug charges when deputies saw him driving on Route 88 in the township. Tennant said Lawver threw bags of suspected crack cocaine from the vehicle before stopping, and deputies found drug paraphernalia and $452 in his car. Lawver is being held without bond at Greene County jail. Tennant said they received an anonymous tip that Lawver was staying at an Alisha home, which helped them locate him. He asked for anyone with information on other fugitives to call the department’s anonymous tip line at 724-852-5388.
