A 3-year-old child was injured and a woman was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after they were attacked by a dog Sunday evening at Angel Ridge Animal Rescue on Old Hickory Ridge Road in Chartiers Township.

According to sources, the dog, a blue pit bull named “Dallas” that had come to the facility Friday from a shelter in McKeesport, Allegheny County, first bit the child. The 32-year-old woman, a volunteer at Angel Ridge, was hurt trying to protect her child. A man who lives near the shelter reportedly heard the woman’s cries for help and came to her aid.

The dog was secured and later euthanized.

The conditions of those who were hurt were not immediately known.

On Monday, a truck was blocking the driveway at Angel Ridge.

A call to the shelter was not returned.
