Action: The county is entering into $1,092,894 worth of renewal agreements with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide permanent supportive and transitional housing to the homeless. Connect Inc. will receive a total of $713,289 for permanent supportive housing and $153,439 for transitional housing. ARC Human Services will receive $189,718 for permanent supportive housing. The agreements will take effect May 1 and run through July 31, 2018. The county also receives administrative fees through HUD.

New playground equipment, to be paid from county oil and gas funds, will be purchased through a state contract that does not require bidding.

Playground equipment to be installed by Bitting Recreation Inc. of Harrisburg near Mingo Creek County Park’s Henry covered bridge will cost $87,848. Additional equipment placed at both Cross Creek and Mingo by Pete Jeffrey & Associates of Indianola will cost $83,350. Aging equipment will be replaced.

Several county employees will be attending the SunGard Public Sector Users’ Group Association Finance Plus Conference for software training June 19 to 23 in Nashville, Tenn. Estimated cost of $2,000 per attendee includes travel, lodging and training to be paid from respective operating budgets.

The board approved the purchase of an easement protecting the use of air space, known as an “avigation,” on Mounts Road, Buffalo Township, in the vicinity of the county airport. The county will purchase the avigation easement for $10,000, authorizing William McGowen, executive director of Washington County Redevelopment Authority, to have trees either felled or trimmed.

At the request of President Judge Katherine B. Emery, the commissioners entered into an intergovernmental agreement with the state for probation and parole officers’ firearm education and training June 1 to 20 related to special weapons and tactics.

All county offices will be closed on Good Friday, April 14.
