Firefighters called to Strabane home
Firefighters from North Strabane Township and other departments were able to quickly put out a fire in an attic of a home on Wylie Avenue in the village of Strabane Monday night.
North Strabane fire Chief Mark Grimm said the cause of the fire was likely electrical and probably started in a fan in the attic of the two-story brick home of Charles Novelli at 138 Wylie. The fire was reported at 9:46 p.m.
“We had a quick response,” Grimm said. “Our department and Houston were there within four minutes of getting the call.”
He said the initial call was for a report of a house fire.
“The family could smell smoke, and they heard a crackling sound,” the chief said. “Everyone was able to get out OK.”
Grimm said the fire was contained to the attic, although there was smoke and water damage on the second floor.
Also on the call were firefighters from Chartiers and Peters Township, along with the Washington Fire Department Rapid Intervention Team. Firefighters were at the scene for about two hours.
