Date: April 11

Action: Police Chief Donald Zofchak presented the first-quarter department report. Zofchak said there were no major changes from 2016, but the department was able to increase traffic enforcement and patrol mileage. He credited the hiring of two full-time officers in February.

Retail thefts and drug overdoses continue to plague the township, said Zofchak. A drug take-back day is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 29. Residents can drop off unused and unwanted medications inside the department’s waiting area. The box can be accessed during business hours Monday through Friday.

Supervisors approved an application for a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation Partnership program grant for the Community Park Phase 5 project. The grant would allow the development of a handicapped-accessible walking trail around the soccer field and construction of a kitchen and restroom.

Supervisors voted to not allow Consol Energy to close on the sale of several properties in the township that have malfunctioning sewage systems.

Consol, which auctioned off several lots March 28, was seeking an exception to the municipal ordinance that mandates dye tests confirm the absence of illegal stormwater or surface water before the purchase of structures. According to Aaron Smith, an attorney representing Consol, buyers purchased the properties as-is and would have to provide funds to fix the systems in an escrow account that the township would hold. Several supervisors said Consol should fix the broken systems before selling the lots.

Supervisors opened bids for the purchase of summer road maintenance materials. Bids are scheduled to be awarded during the next supervisors meeting.

Next meeting: 7 p.m. April 26 at the municipal building.
