Canonsburg man accused of cutting roommate with knife
A Canonsburg man was arrested by borough police on charges including aggravated assault after he allegedly cut his roommate with a knife during a confrontation at their home late Thursday.
Bradley Ball, 38, of 560 Tannehill St., also is charged with reckless endangerment, simple assault and harassment for allegedly cutting 27-year-old Garrett Patterson.
Police were called just before midnight for a report of two roommates fighting. While responding, police learned the caller was outside waiting for police and his roommate reportedly was armed with a handgun. The man who supposedly was armed also called 911, indicating he had been cut with a knife and his gun was locked in the safe.
Ball was outside the house when police arrived and told officers Patterson assaulted him after he confronted the roommate about being loud while he was trying to sleep. Ball told police he threw the knife but was not sure if he hit Patterson. He also claimed Patterson attacked him a second time and threatened him with a gun, so he ran out of the house and called 911.
Police talked with Patterson, who had a large amount of blood on his body, arms and shoulders. He had long, thin wounds on both shoulders and a large cut on his chin. He told police Ball threw the knife at him. Patterson told police Ball was upset because he and friend were at the house, being loud. Patterson’s friend also told police Ball threw the knife at his friend.
Ball reportedly told police he was acting in self-defense.
Patterson was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.
Police are continuing the investigation. They confiscated three stainless steel kitchen knives.
North Strabane Township and state police assisted.
Ball was arraigned before District Judge David Mark and placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled for a May 3 preliminary hearing before Mark.
