Angela Crump thought she was going to Canonsburg to drop off something her boyfriend had left at home Friday morning.
Instead, she got what likely was the shock of her life when she was not only pulled over by police but received a marriage proposal from her boyfriend of three and a half years.
Her boyfriend, now fiancé, Eric Cersosimo, enlisted the assistance of fellow police officers Lou Bailey and Brian DaPra to pull over Crump as she drove on East Pike Street. As they were getting her out of her vehicle, Cersosimo came up from behind, got down on one knee and proposed to her.
“She had no idea,” said Cersosimo, who has been a part-time Canonsburg police officer since September. He also works for the Stowe Township and McKees Rocks police departments.
Cersosimo said he wanted to do something original.
“No one else can do this unless you are in law enforcement,” said the 24-year-old officer. “I thought this would be a great way for her to be surprised and shocked all at once.”
The two met while going to school at West Liberty University in West Liberty, W.Va.
Cersosimo said the two had been talking about getting married but had not made definite plans. He and his 25-year-old fiancée have had a long-distance relationship recently because she is working as a speech pathologist in Florida.
Cersosimo said no date has been set for the wedding.
