A Canonsburg woman accused of having a marijuana grow operation inside her Chestnut Street home waived her case to court Wednesday.

Nancy Schwaiger, 70, of 47 Chestnut St., was arrested March 17 by Canonsburg police on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. She had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing on the charges before District Judge David Mark.

Police obtained a search warrant for her home after Officer Anthony Cancilla smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from the residence while on patrol.

When police entered the home, Schwaiger told them “You guys are here for the weed.”

Police searched the home and found numerous glass jars filled with marijuana along with about 25 plants. They also found a grow operation that included multiple lamps, custom exhaust fans, soil nutrients, humidity and temperature gauges. Also found in the home were numerous pipes, grinders and bongs.

Schwaiger, who is free on $25,000 bond, is scheduled to be formally arraigned on the charges.
