A Pittsburgh man is facing charges after fleeing from Washington police, who were investigating multiple reports of shots being fired in Lincoln Terrace Tuesday night.
Dontae Chandler, 26, was taken into custody several blocks away and placed in Washington County Jail on a state parole violations.
Police were called about 9:45 p.m. to the 200 block of Lincoln Terrace after they calls about shots being fired. They also received reports of a person outside a silver car loading a gun. Sgt. C.J. Martin pulled up, activated the lights on his cruiser and put a spotlight on the car. A man, later identified as Chandler, got out and ran.
Martin lost sight of Chandler as he crossed Shannon Avenue and ran behind a home in the 100 block of Poplar Street. Lt. Roy Loeffert spotted Chandler and tried to stop him, but he ran back behind the houses. Officer Roger Frazee also went behind the houses and used his Taser to take Chandler into custody.
Police said Chandler had $1,000 on him. Officers found Chandler’s cellphone and glasses behind the fence and also found a Smith & Wesson “Pink Lady” .38 special with five rounds in it that had been reported stolen to state police.
Officers learned a woman also fled from the vehicle and found a bag of suspected narcotics in the car. Chandler told police that he ran because he knew he was wanted on a parole violation. Chandler also told police he wanted to get rid of the gun.
The charges against Chandler have not yet been determined, but likely will include firearm and drug charges.
