Residents in the Nineveh and Graysville areas were without phone services for most of Thursday and Friday.

Greene County Regional Police Chief Michael Natale said a tree came down on Stringtown Road in Morris Township during high winds Thursday afternoon, cutting the phone lines and leaving dozens of residents without the ability to call 911 in case of emergency. He said the outage affected landlines and internet in an area of the county in which cell phone service is not a guarantee.

“It took Windstream 24 hours to get a crew to the site,” Natale said. “I had to call every hour to see where they were.”

Natale said that he stayed on duty until the phones came back, so that people could reach him by cell phone if necessary and so that he could contact dispatch.
